Clinic for Orthopaedics and Accident Surgery: Spinal Column Department

Dear visitor,

Each year, we treat around 1,500 people as in-patients with back pain caused by degenerative diseases, vertebral fractures, congenital deformities, inflammations or tumours. The diagnostic equipment we use includes X-rays, MRI, CT and functional myelograms, as well as neurophysiology investigations (EMG / NCS and EEG).

Each year, we carry out almost 500 surgical procedures on the spine. We specialise in minimally invasive surgical techniques to protect the back muscles and to ensure patients are able to mobilise quickly and with little pain.

We offer the entire spectrum of spinal surgery, covering the cervical, thoracic and lumbar spine, as well as the sacrum and pelvis. We use state-of-the-art equipment and implants in our procedures. Some of our work involves researching new developments and scientifically testing their use. Patients are usually referred for treatment via our clinics.

Please arrange an appointment on: +49 (0)36691 - 81602.

Emergencies are admitted via our emergency department. We endeavour to find the ideal treatment pathway through close collaboration with other specialties, including the University of Jena’s Neurology Unit. As a patient, you are involved in decisions relating to your treatment. We take the time needed to discuss your examination findings with you. Wherever it is advisable to do so, we prefer to adopt a conservative approach.

Our medical expertise is complemented by professional nurses, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, speech therapists, hydro therapists, psychologists and social workers. We see ourselves as a team with a common goal: to determine the cause of the patient's symptoms and to provide relief in line with the patient's expectations!

If you have any other questions, please contact us via the contact form, by e-mail or by post.

The team of the Spinal Department thanks you for your interest.
